The Federal Capital Territory Administration has confirmed the appointments of 1,659 workers following a civil service confirmation examination conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission.
The confirmation was approved by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen workforce management and improve accountability within the FCT civil service.
According to a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the confirmation exercise followed a screening examination held on February 28, 2026, for employees seeking permanent appointment in the administration.
The Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Ezeh, disclosed that 2,512 workers were initially invited for the exercise, but only 2,281 appeared for the examination.
Out of those who participated, 1,659 staff members were confirmed after successfully completing the process.
Ezeh noted that some of the employees who sat for the confirmation examination had been working with the administration for several years without formal confirmation, with some employed as far back as 2016 and 2019.
He also explained that a number of the workers were recruited shortly before the current administration assumed office in August 2023.
The commission, however, expressed concern over the absence of 224 officers who failed to appear for the screening exercise. According to Ezeh, the absence has raised suspicions that some of the names on the payroll may be linked to ghost worker practices within the system.
He said the confirmation exercise forms part of broader reforms aimed at improving transparency, ensuring proper documentation of personnel records and strengthening the integrity of the civil service structure in the FCT.
The FCT Civil Service Commission also revealed that preparations have been concluded for the conduct of promotion exercises covering both the 2025 and 2026 cycles.
The promotion exercises were approved by the FCT minister and are expected to provide career progression opportunities for qualified staff within the administration.
Officials say the exercise is in line with the Federal Government’s broader effort to boost staff morale and improve productivity across public institutions.
Eligible candidates have been advised to visit the official website of the FCT Civil Service Commission for further information regarding the promotion process and other administrative updates.
