The leadership of the Nigeria Police Force has charged newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) to play a critical role in strengthening reforms and improving the operational effectiveness of the force.

Speaking during a decoration ceremony for the senior officers, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, said their new rank places them at the centre of strategic decision-making and institutional leadership within the police hierarchy.

He noted that promotion to the position of Deputy Inspector-General represents one of the highest levels of professional responsibility in the force and requires strong leadership, discipline and commitment to justice.

According to the police chief, the newly promoted officers are expected to provide direction in shaping policies, reinforcing internal discipline and driving reforms that will improve the performance and public perception of the force.

The IGP also emphasised the need for the senior officers to focus on intelligence-led policing and strengthen coordination among security agencies in addressing the country’s evolving security challenges.

He pointed out that the security landscape continues to grow more complex, with law enforcement agencies confronting organised crime, cyber-related threats and other emerging criminal activities.

The police chief urged the officers to use their experience to improve operational coordination across commands while ensuring transparency and accountability within the ranks.

He further encouraged them to demonstrate fairness and professionalism in their duties, noting that their actions and leadership style would influence the culture and direction of the Nigeria Police Force.

The ceremony marked the formal decoration and assumption of duties for the officers as members of the top strategic leadership responsible for guiding policing operations across the country.
