UNILAG Students Face Uncertainty as ASUU Declares Indefinite Strike Over Salaries

ASUU STRIKE

Students at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) are facing fresh uncertainty as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) announced an indefinite strike. The union’s decision comes after members reportedly received what they described as “amputated” salaries for January and February 2026.

In a communique signed by Idou Kehinde, chairperson, and Adesina Arikawe, secretary, the union said the industrial action would begin Wednesday and continue until the university addresses their salary concerns.

For many undergraduates, the announcement means potential delays in lectures, exams, and academic schedules. “We are worried about how this will affect our final year projects and results,” said one student, requesting anonymity.

Campus vendors and staff are also bracing for disruption. “Business is tied to student activities. Every strike affects everyone on campus,” said a cafeteria operator near the Faculty of Arts.

The university management is yet to respond publicly. Both students and staff hope for a swift resolution to avoid prolonged disruption to academic life.
