The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Pius Akutah, has hinted at a possible governorship ambition in Benue State while urging leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party to support the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Akutah made the remarks during a visit to the residence of former Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, where party stakeholders held an expanded caucus meeting in the state.
In a statement issued in Abuja by his media aide, Solomon Amande, Akutah said he attended the meeting to identify with PDP leaders who had shown support for the administration of President Tinubu and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
According to him, recent development initiatives of the current administration in Benue should encourage political leaders and residents of the state to consider backing Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
During the meeting, Akutah also addressed growing political discussions surrounding the governorship seat in Benue State.
He noted that there had been increasing calls for the Kwande axis of the state to produce the next governor, adding that he was prepared to serve if given the opportunity.
Akutah said his experience in public service and administration positioned him to lead the state effectively and address key challenges including development, security, and economic growth.
The Shippers’ Council boss also praised former governor Samuel Ortom for what he described as his commitment to protecting the interests of Benue State during his tenure.
According to Akutah, Ortom’s leadership emphasised strategic partnerships aimed at improving development and addressing security concerns in the state.
Political observers say Akutah’s outreach to opposition leaders reflects growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Across several regions in the country, federal appointees and political actors have begun consultations and alliance-building efforts as preparations gradually intensify for the next electoral cycle.
