The Federal Road Safety Corps has intensified enforcement against traffic violations in Kano State as part of its 2026 Eid-el-Fitri special operations aimed at ensuring safer roads during the festive period.
The operation, which runs from March 17 to March 22, will see officers focus on major traffic offences that have been identified as leading causes of road crashes across the state.
According to a statement by the Kano Sector Command, enforcement efforts will specifically target speeding, dangerous overtaking, overloading, and the use of mobile phones while driving, among other violations.
The agency noted that strict compliance with traffic regulations is critical during festive periods, when increased travel often leads to congestion and a higher risk of accidents.
To strengthen the operation, the Federal Road Safety Corps is collaborating with multiple security and emergency response agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Fire Service, and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency.
The joint effort is expected to improve traffic control, enhance surveillance, and ensure quicker response to road emergencies across key routes in Kano State.
Officials say the coordinated approach will also help in clearing road obstructions promptly and maintaining steady traffic flow throughout the Sallah celebrations.
Sector Commander Idris Lawal urged motorists to comply with traffic rules, emphasizing that enforcement alone cannot guarantee safety without responsible driving.
He advised drivers to avoid excessive speeding, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, and use safety devices such as seat belts at all times.
The Command also encouraged the public to report traffic crashes and emergencies through the FRSC toll-free number 122 to enable swift intervention.
As part of pre-operation activities, the Command recently conducted a public awareness rally along the Kano-Zaria road to educate road users on safe driving practices ahead of the festivities.
With increased monitoring and stricter enforcement now in place, authorities say the goal is to reduce road crashes and ensure a safer travel experience for residents and visitors during the Eid celebrations.
