Armed assailants on Tuesday night launched an attack on Rim Village in Riyom Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of two residents and injuries to two others.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. when the attackers reportedly entered the community and began shooting sporadically, causing panic among residents. Witnesses said the gunmen operated for several minutes before escaping into nearby bushes.

The wounded victims were quickly transported to a nearby medical facility, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Confirming the attack, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement, Rwang Tengwong, described the incident as one of the recurring security challenges affecting the area.

He stated that the sudden invasion disrupted the peace of the community, noting that two persons were confirmed dead while others sustained injuries during the assault.

Tengwong called on security agencies to intensify their presence in Riyom and surrounding communities, stressing the need for improved surveillance and prompt response to prevent further incidents.

Meanwhile, attempts to obtain official comments from the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

The attack adds to ongoing concerns over insecurity in parts of Plateau State, where communities have continued to experience sporadic violent incidents in recent times.
