The ongoing Prosperity Cup 2026, Bayelsa State’s flagship grassroots football tournament, has continued to serve as a platform for discovering and nurturing young football talents across multiple centres in Yenagoa and Southern Ijaw Local Government Areas.

The tournament, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football competitions, recorded an impressive display of attacking football across matchday fixtures, with teams producing a high number of goals and competitive performances.

Across various centres, several young players and teams delivered standout performances that underline the growing depth of football talent at the grassroots level in the state.

At the Swali centre, Ikolo FC delivered one of the most dominant performances of the round, demonstrating attacking strength and teamwork in their progression, while other teams such as Izuo Gilet FC also maintained their competitive edge with solid victories.

The Bishop Dimeari Grammar School (BDGS) centre witnessed closely contested matches, including penalty shootouts that tested the composure of emerging players, further highlighting the competitive nature of the tournament.

At the Tombia centre, Mountain of Fire Ministry FC (MFM FC) produced a commanding performance, while Slaughter FC also advanced with a strong win, reflecting the increasing competitiveness among participating teams.

In other centres including Kpansia, Okordia, Obunagha, Biogbolo, and Oporoma, teams such as Bayelsa United Feeders, Okordia United, and Onyoma FC secured important victories to progress to the next round, with several matches decided by narrow margins and penalties.

The widespread participation of community-based teams, schools, academies, and feeder sides continues to highlight the tournament’s role in bridging the gap between grassroots football and professional opportunities.

Organisers say the Prosperity Cup is not only about competition but also about talent identification, youth engagement, and community development through sports.

With scouts, coaches, and stakeholders closely monitoring matches across centres, the tournament is expected to produce players capable of advancing to higher levels of football within and outside Nigeria.

As the competition progresses toward the round of 32, attention is shifting to consistency, team discipline, and individual brilliance as key factors that will determine which teams and players emerge as future stars.

Matches are set to continue as the tournament advances to Sagbama Local Government Area, where more teams will battle for qualification and a chance to etch their names in the history of Bayelsa grassroots football.
