The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, has signalled his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State following an endorsement by stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibarapaland.

The endorsement was announced after a stakeholders’ meeting held in Igboora, where party leaders expressed confidence in Ogundoyin’s leadership and contributions to the stability of the state legislature.

According to the stakeholders, his track record, loyalty to the party, and commitment to development make him a strong contender for the state’s top seat. They also urged him to formally enter the race, assuring him of their support ahead of the 2027 election.

Reacting to the development, Ogundoyin, who represents Ibarapa East Constituency, described the endorsement as both an honour and a responsibility. He noted that the call reflects a desire for inclusive governance and sustained progress across the state.

The meeting brought together key political figures, including Anthony Adepoju, commissioners Ademola Ojo and Wasilat Adegoke, as well as local government chairmen and other grassroots leaders.

Observers say the development could shape early political alignments within the PDP as the build-up to the 2027 governorship election begins in Oyo State.
