The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday criticised Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State over what he described as inconsistency and unreliability in his political statements and actions.
Wike spoke during a visit to key infrastructure sites managed by CGC, Arab Contractors, and Gilmor, including the Airport Road-Kuje junction and other major traffic points.
“It is very embarrassing. He says one thing today, another thing in the morning, and a different thing in the afternoon. Bala, we are really glad that you told Nigerians who you are—that you are not reliable,” Wike said.
The minister also condemned Mohammed’s recent demand for the party’s National Secretary position, describing it as an attempt “from a position of weakness.” Wike argued that the governor, having already been politically defeated, was using the request to exert personal influence within the party.
“You are already defeated, you have lost. You are speaking with a weak point and want to demand the secretary. That is not done,” he said.
Wike further questioned Mohammed’s efforts to control party activities for personal benefit, pointing to reports that the governor met with the President multiple times. “It is very embarrassing. He said he went to see Mr. President three times. What did he go and see Mr. President for? How will someone from another party fix your problem in another party?” the minister asked.
Political analysts note that Wike’s comments underscore the rising tensions within party ranks and the potential challenges of internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections. Observers say public criticism from high-profile figures like Wike could influence the party’s internal power dynamics and shape public perception of leadership credibility.
