President Bola Tinubu has reinforced leadership in Nigeria’s energy sector with the appointment of Professor Shu’aib Aliyu as Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund and the reappointment of Sule Abdulaziz as Managing Director/CEO of the Transmission Company of Nigeria for a final term.

Aliyu succeeds Ahmed Aminu, who resigned to pursue the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State. The presidency described Aliyu as a distinguished academic and administrator, with extensive experience in research, institutional leadership, and capacity development in the petroleum industry.

A statement from the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, noted that Aliyu’s appointment is intended to strengthen the PTDF’s role in human capital development, innovation, and strategic support for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. The President expects him to reposition the fund for greater national impact, aligning with the government’s energy priorities.

Abdulaziz’s reappointment follows a performance review that highlighted his achievements in stabilising Nigeria’s electricity grid, expanding transmission capacity, modernising systems, and advancing regional electricity integration through the West African Power Pool.

President Tinubu urged both leaders to carry out their duties with diligence, accountability, and integrity, reflecting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Analysts say these strategic appointments signal the government’s intent to consolidate institutional leadership in the energy sector and ensure continuity in critical national projects, positioning Nigeria for stronger growth in electricity transmission and petroleum development.
