The Nigerian Army has stepped in to debunk viral social media rumors claiming an armed attack on the residence of Bishop Matthew Kukah and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral. The Army clarified that these reports are false and misleading, emphasizing that both the cleric and the cathedral remain secure.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, stated that attention was drawn to a misleading post circulating on Facebook, which falsely reported an attack.

The Army reassured residents of Sokoto State that there was no breach of security. Bishop Kukah is reportedly carrying out his Easter duties without disruption, as the Army maintains robust measures to ensure a peaceful celebration.

“Our commitment to protecting lives and property remains firm, working alongside other security agencies,” the statement said. Security has been intensified across the region to guarantee a safe Easter for all worshippers.

Authorities also cautioned the public against sharing unverified news online, highlighting the dangers of misinformation during sensitive periods.
