Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State have called for unity, discipline, and stronger grassroots mobilisation as the party begins early preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The resolution was reached during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Gusau on Saturday, where prominent party leaders gathered to review internal structures and strengthen coordination ahead of future elections.
The meeting brought together former governors, lawmakers, and other influential figures within the party, in what was described as a strategic effort to reposition the APC in Zamfara State.
Reading the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, said stakeholders agreed on the need to ensure peaceful, transparent, and inclusive party congresses and primary elections.
He noted that adherence to established party guidelines would be critical in preventing internal disputes and maintaining credibility as preparations for 2027 intensify.
According to the communiqué, members were urged to prioritise unity and avoid actions capable of dividing the party. Stakeholders stressed that internal disagreements should be resolved through party mechanisms rather than public confrontation.
They also emphasised that cohesion within the APC remains essential for electoral success, warning that unresolved internal tensions could weaken the party’s chances in future elections.
“There is a need for all members to remain committed to the ideals of the party and work together in harmony,” the communiqué stated.
A key focus of the meeting was strengthening the party’s structure at the grassroots level. Leaders called for renewed mobilisation across wards and local government areas, describing grassroots engagement as the foundation of political strength.
Party officials were encouraged to deepen their outreach to members and communities to ensure the APC remains visible, active, and responsive to public concerns at all levels.
The stakeholders also used the opportunity to discuss security challenges in Zamfara State. They called for closer collaboration between local communities and security agencies to address ongoing insecurity and improve stability across the state.
They noted that security remains a major concern affecting governance, development, and political participation, and stressed the need for sustained efforts to restore peace.
In a major political development, the stakeholders endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
They also expressed support for Governor Dauda Lawal, affirming confidence in his leadership and backing his continued administration in the state.
The endorsements were seen as part of efforts to project unity within the party and consolidate political alignment ahead of the next election cycle.
Political observers say such early endorsements often signal attempts to streamline party interests and reduce internal competition, although they may also trigger discussions among other aspirants.
The Zamfara APC leadership maintained that the focus remains on strengthening internal structures and ensuring that the party is well-positioned for future electoral contests.
They reiterated that unity, discipline, and grassroots organisation will be central to the party’s strategy moving forward.
As preparations for the 2027 elections gradually take shape, the stakeholders’ meeting is expected to serve as a foundation for broader political engagement within the state APC structure.
For now, party leaders appear committed to maintaining internal cohesion while aligning behind key political figures at both national and state levels.
