Former Minister of Power, Goddy Jedy-Agba, has said Nigeria’s biggest challenge is not corruption but indiscipline, stressing that national progress depends largely on how public officials manage resources.
Speaking during an exclusive book signing event, the former minister reflected on his time in public service, noting that discipline in handling public funds would significantly reduce corruption and improve governance outcomes.
“Our problem is not corruption; our problem is indiscipline. If you are disciplined enough not to tamper with public funds, you will use them to develop society,” he said.
Jedy-Agba also addressed concerns about Nigeria’s struggling power sector, attributing current challenges partly to gas supply issues. According to him, inadequate payment to gas producers has affected electricity generation, limiting output across the country.
He, however, expressed optimism that the sector would improve, noting that efforts toward alternative energy development had already begun before he left office in 2023 and are being continued by the current administration.
On leadership and governance, the former minister declined to publicly criticize his successors, emphasizing that such discussions are better handled privately within government circles.
He described his book as a reflection of his experiences in public service, aimed at inspiring Nigerians and offering practical lessons for leadership and national development.
