The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa, met with the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Aisha Mohammed Garba, to strengthen collaboration aimed at expanding digital literacy across Nigeria’s basic education system.
The discussion emphasized that digital literacy must reach both teachers and students. Leaders also explored leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics to monitor teacher reach, track learning outcomes, and generate reliable school and learner data.
Leveraging AI and Data Analytics to Track Impact
Inuwa highlighted NITDA’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s digital literacy goals, aiming for 70% literacy by 2027 and 95% by 2030. He explained that collaboration with UBEC will accelerate the reach of digital programs to students across the nation.
Expanding Access Through Digital Learning Centres
The meeting also focused on the deployment and optimal use of over 1,500 digital learning centres provided by NITDA nationwide. Both agencies reiterated their commitment to ensuring every Nigerian student has access to modern digital tools and services, a key step toward inclusive and sustainable digital education.
NITDA reaffirmed readiness to continue its partnership with UBEC, marking a significant stride in achieving Nigeria’s national digital literacy agenda.
