In a move to ease travel stress and improve mobility during the festive season, the Nigerian Railway Corporation has expanded train services across key routes while introducing special incentives for passengers ahead of Eid-el-Fitr.

The railway operator said the initiative is designed to provide affordable and convenient transport options for Nigerians looking to travel for the Sallah celebrations, a period traditionally marked by heavy movement across cities.

One of the highlights of the arrangement is a free train service for indigenes of Osun State travelling between Lagos and Osogbo, a gesture supported by the state government to reduce travel costs during the holiday.

Across other routes, the corporation has increased the number of daily trips to accommodate rising passenger demand. The Lagos–Ibadan corridor, one of the busiest rail lines in the country, will see additional services to help reduce congestion and waiting times.

Similarly, services on the Abuja–Kaduna route will be ramped up over several days, reflecting its importance as a major intercity transport link.

According to the NRC, the expansion is not only about increasing capacity but also about enhancing passenger experience through more reliable scheduling and improved service delivery.

The corporation emphasised that rail transport remains one of the safest and most cost-effective travel options, especially during peak periods when road traffic and fares typically surge.

Passengers have been advised to plan their journeys early, adhere strictly to ticketing procedures, and comply with security checks to ensure smooth operations throughout the festive period.

Transport analysts say the move could significantly reduce pressure on road networks while offering a safer alternative for long-distance travel during the celebrations.

With millions expected to travel for Eid-el-Fitr, the expanded rail services are expected to play a crucial role in keeping the country moving efficiently during one of its busiest travel seasons.
