Tragedy struck Agamọ Community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State on Wednesday evening, as Oba Kehinde Falodun, the traditional ruler, was reportedly killed during a violent encounter with suspected bandits.
Sources in the community said about 10 armed men stormed the monarch’s palace in an apparent attempt to abduct him. Eyewitnesses reported that Oba Falodun resisted the attack, prompting the assailants to open fire. When bullets allegedly failed to penetrate him, the attackers reportedly struck him on the head with a heavy object, resulting in his death.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for Ondo State, Mr Abayomi Jimoh, said investigations had commenced and security operatives were working to apprehend the fleeing suspects. He added that the Divisional Police Officer, supported by tactical teams, local hunters, Atuluse Security, and Amotekun operatives, were combing nearby areas to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The victim was later found a few metres from his palace with gunshot wounds and was confirmed dead at the scene. Monitoring and surveillance have been intensified across the area to ensure the safety of residents,” Mr Jimoh said.
This latest attack comes weeks after suspected bandits targeted Ayede Community, abducting a pregnant woman who was later released following a ransom payment. In response, Ondo State security forces arrested 12 men suspected of involvement in similar crimes.
Residents have voiced growing concern over insecurity in Akure North and are urging authorities to take urgent action to restore peace in affected communities.
