Digital financial services provider OPay has refuted claims circulating online that its offices in Lagos and Abuja were sealed by the Nigeria Revenue Service over alleged tax violations.
The fintech firm described the reports as misleading, insisting that all its operational offices across the country remain open and continue to serve customers without interruption.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the company clarified that the reports linking it to non-compliance with Value Added Tax and Company Income Tax under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 were inaccurate.
According to the company, the situation being referenced in the reports actually stemmed from an industry-wide directive issued by the tax authority to payment platforms operating in Nigeria.
The directive, it explained, requested payment service providers to clearly separate and display certain statutory charges on their mobile applications to improve transparency and simplify reconciliation processes.
The company stressed that the notice was not targeted specifically at its operations but applied broadly to several operators within the digital payment ecosystem.
Management further stated that the interpretation suggesting the notice indicated unpaid taxes was incorrect and had created unnecessary confusion among the public.
OPay also expressed concern over what it described as the selective mention of the company in reports concerning a directive that affects multiple payment platforms.
The fintech firm maintained that it operates in full compliance with relevant tax regulations and maintains active engagement with government regulators to ensure adherence to statutory standards.
It added that its services remain fully functional nationwide and reassured customers and business partners that the company remains committed to supporting Nigeria’s growing digital economy.
