PDP Begins Crucial 2027 Aspirant Screening in Abuja

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially commenced the screening of its presidential and governorship aspirants as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

The strategic exercise, overseen by the party’s National Working Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, is currently taking place at the PDP National Secretariat Annex, Legacy House, located in Maitama, Abuja.

In a statement released by the National Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, the party confirmed that the screening of governorship aspirants is scheduled to begin at 12 noon on Thursday, while the presidential aspirants will be screened later in the day at 2 p.m. at the same venue.

The party constituted separate committees to ensure a thorough and transparent process.

The presidential screening committee is chaired by former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, with Hassan Sokodobo serving as Secretary. Other members of the committee include Abba Isawa, George Sekibo, Sodipo Semiu, Chinelo Chidebelu, Nasiru Mohammed, Zainab Kure, and Lindsey Sora.

Similarly, the governorship screening committee is chaired by former Kaduna State Governor, Ahmed Makarfi, while George Ariolu serves as Secretary. Members of the committee include Ibrahim Umar, Aisha Madawaki, Tajudeen Yusuf, Abdulganiyu Oloyin, Babangida Modibbo, Buba Biri, Olaniyi Ogungbuji, Mike Ahumibe, Gabriel Igboko, Tony Effiong, and Precious Ojelabi.

The screening marks a critical step in the PDP’s roadmap toward selecting credible candidates, as the party positions itself strongly ahead of the 2027 electoral contest.
