Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms are beginning to deliver early signs of recovery despite persistent fiscal pressures, a senior official at the Budget Office of the Federation has said.
Speaking in Kano, the Director of Expenditure (Social), Yusuf Kurawa, acknowledged that Nigeria is currently facing significant fiscal challenges but stressed that the situation is not unique, noting that many economies worldwide are dealing with similar financial constraints.
He expressed confidence that reforms introduced under President Bola Tinubu are gradually stabilizing the economy, urging Nigerians to remain patient as the policies take full effect.
According to Kurawa, while economic hardship persists, indicators are beginning to show that government interventions are gaining traction.
“Nigeria is not alone in these challenges, but with the reforms in place, we are already seeing positive signals. With time, the economy will stabilize,” he said.
Addressing concerns over continued government borrowing following the removal of fuel subsidy, Kurawa clarified that borrowing remains a standard global economic tool when properly managed.
He emphasized that what matters is not borrowing itself, but how effectively such funds are utilized to drive growth and development.
“There is nothing unusual about borrowing. It is a global practice. The key issue is responsible management, and the government is fully in control,” he added.
Kurawa further highlighted the critical role of the Budget Office in ensuring fiscal discipline, describing the national budget as a central policy instrument that shapes development priorities and public spending.
He noted that under the leadership of Director-General Tanimu Yakubu, the agency continues to uphold transparency, accountability, and professionalism in managing the nation’s finances.
Reassuring Nigerians, he maintained that the government remains committed to prudent financial management and long-term economic stability.
Beyond economic matters, Kurawa also reflected on a personal milestone, celebrating the marriage of his daughters at Bayero University Mosque in Kano. He described the occasion as both joyful and emotional, highlighting the importance of family values.
He advised the newlyweds to build their marriage on faith, honesty, and mutual understanding, noting that strong moral foundations are essential for lasting relationships.
