President Bola Tinubu has sought the Senate confirmation of erstwhile chairman, Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform, Mr Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance.

In a letter addressed to the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio and read at plenary on Tuesday, Tinubu said the nomination was made in accordance with the provisions of the constitution.

“In compliance with the provisions of section 147(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, I am pleased to forward to the Senate for confirmation the nomination of Mr Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

“While I hope that this request will receive expeditious consideration of the Senate, please accept Distinguished Senate President the assurances of my highest regards,” the President stated.

Akpabio thereafter referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for consideration.

“Well, in line with our practice and as a result of the urgency, this is referred to the Committee of the Whole for further consideration,” the Senate President explained.

It would be recalled that Tinubu had on March 3 nominated Oyedele as the Minister of State for Finance, succeeding Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State.

A distinguished economist, accountant, and public policy expert, Oyedele was instrumental in overhauling Nigeria’s tax system and masterminding the recent tax reform legislations aimed at enhancing revenue generation and streamlining the business environment.
