A faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has moved to consolidate opposition strength ahead of the 2027 general elections by entering into a formal alliance with the Allied Peoples’ Movement.

The agreement was sealed on Thursday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by key representatives of both political platforms.

Seyi Bamidele signed on behalf of the PDP faction, while Oladele Oyadeji represented the APM. The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, alongside the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, also appended their signatures, signaling high-level backing for the collaboration.

The development comes at a critical political moment, as Makinde used the occasion to publicly declare his intention to contest in the 2027 presidential election.

The alliance is expected to reshape early political alignments, with analysts suggesting it could serve as a foundation for a broader opposition coalition aimed at challenging the ruling party.

Observers note that Makinde’s declaration, combined with the newly formed partnership, positions him as a key figure in emerging permutations ahead of the next presidential race.

While details of the agreement remain limited, insiders indicate that the collaboration will focus on strategic coordination, voter mobilization, and strengthening party structures across key regions.

The move underscores growing efforts among opposition stakeholders to present a united front as preparations gradually intensify for the 2027 general elections.
